MATTERS Presents at National Opioid Crisis Management Congress
The BRI Network hosted its 6th Annual National Opioid Crisis Management Congress in July 2022 at the Westin Boston Seaport District. Each year, leaders from local, regional, state, and national organizations attend with the goals to address the state of the science in pain management, characterize the epidemiology of the opioid epidemic, and identify actions that can be taken to respond to this crisis.
This year the MATTERS Program Manager Caleigh Loughran traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to present about the Network’s referral platform and expansion across New York State. The MATTERS Electronic Referral Platform offers a centralized resource for regional, state, and national partners to submit and receive referrals to treat patients with opioid and substance use disorders. As the Network grows, the referral platform has become more robust; MATTERS plans to expand its scope to include referrals for mental health services and began offering resources to reduce traditional barriers to treatment.
Ms. Loughran has served as an integral member of the MATTERS team for the last three years and has helped lead the development of its medication voucher and transportation voucher programs to support patient success. Included in every referral is a choice for patients to opt-in for an additional connection to peer services to assist in getting to their first outpatient clinic appointment.
