Thank you to Paul Fahey for having MATTERS participate in the Overdose 2 Action (OD2A) webinar series!
As the prevalence of individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) continues to rise in emergency departments (EDs), physicians are having to adjust to the new way of service provision in these acute settings. Developed by emergency medicine physicians, the Medication Assisted Treatment & Emergency Referrals (MATTERS) program, has emerged from the growing awareness that EDs need to increase the access of evidence-based medications; such as methadone and buprenorphine; in order to meet the growing needs of admitted patients with OUD.
Watch this webinar on demand and hear from Joshua Lynch and Caleigh Loughran as they discuss Medication Assisted Treatment and Emergency Referrals. They developed an electronic referral platform (hosted by the New York State Department of Health) to efficiently refer patients with opioid use disorder from emergency departments along with OB/GYN offices, correctional facilities, inpatient units, pre-hospital settings, etc. to community-based clinics. Their presentation covered the following aspects of MATTERS:
-
General Overview
-
Mission, Vision, & Values
-
Prescribing Guidelines
